I am a journalist, photographer, and podcast producer living and working in Iceland.
A love of history, language, and nature has been the guiding light through my professional life. I’ve earned two M.A. degrees, one in German Literature, the other in Medieval Icelandic History. In addition to my current work in creative media, I have also taught for some years as a German teacher at all levels, including university, community college, and high school. Whether it’s journalism, photography, or pedagogy, I strive to tell important stories and contextualize them in ways that matter.
Journalism
I currently work as a staff writer for Iceland Review magazine, the oldest English-language publication on Iceland. I conduct interviews with notable artists, politicians, and entrepreneurs, with a focus on environmental conservation, the tourism industry, and the politicization of the Icelandic language. I have also written for the Reykjavík Grapevine, an English-language paper and website focusing on music and culture, and What’s On, a travel site.
Photography
In addition to my journalistic writing, I am also a photojournalist. My main interests are on social issues such as immigration and integration, but I also do a fair bit of photography for travel writing as well. I currently use a Sony A7R IVa2.
Podcast Production
I began the Deep North podcast series for Iceland Review in 2022. Originally, it featured audio story versions of our articles, but it has now grown to include interviews and a weekly news digest as well.
